Mall evacuated after gas leak in Fujairah
Civil defence in Dibba Al Fujairah evacuated Lulu Hypermarket on Sunday night as a precautionary measure following a gas leak.
The leak happened during routine maintenance work at the mall and workers had to call the police and the civil defence after failing to control the leak.
After evacuating the building, the company in charge of gas installations at the supermarket was called in to pipe out nearly 5,000 tonnes of gas from the main tank, according to civil defence chief Colonel Suleiman Al Shujaa.
“We placed safety signs at the site to ensure a safe operation….the leak inside and outside the building was small,” he said.
