An Asian worker in Ras Al Khaimah slashed his veins in a suicide attempt but stayed alive. After police tried to take him to hospital, he locked himself in the kitchen before jumping to his death from the third floor.

Police said they had rushed to a third level apartment after receiving a report at dawn from workers that their colleague slashed his wrist and neck veins and that he was bleeding heavily.

"When he felt that police and a doctor came to the apartment, he rushed to the kitchen and locked himself up,” said Colonel Suleiman Al Kayzi, director of the Rams Al Shamil police station in the northern city.

"Police tried to persuade him to open the door so he will be taken to hospital for treatment…but he refused and in the end, he smashed the kitchen window and jumped down…he was rushed to hospital but died later.”

Quoted  by the local press, Kayzi said the man is said to have suffered from depression due to domestic problems.
