An Emirati died after having his bad molar extracted and a court found the dentist and the hospital guilty of negligence, the semi-official newspaper 'Al Ittihad' reported on Tuesday.
The court in Ruwais, nearly 240km west of Abu Dhabi, ordered Dr Jacob Ambooken Ittiyera to pay a fine of Dh5,000 for negligence and the hospital to pay Dh25,000 for negligence and Dh200,000 in diya (blood money) for the victim’s family.
The paper did not say how Ahmed Awad Nassir died but quoted the judge in Ruwais as saying the doctor and the hospital failed to provide the needed injection which could have saved his life.
Court sources said the hospital is run by the government-controlled Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), which operates one of region’s largest refining complexes in Ruwais.
