Man drowns while fishing near Jebel Ali

A man of Asian origin drowned near Jebel Ali after apparently getting swept away by high waves while fishing.

In what appears to an accident caused by the windy conditions, the 50-year-old man had gone fishing with two of his friends when he slipped into the waters between Dugas and Dubal late evening, said Captain Yahiya Hussein Mohammed, head of Maritime Rescue Department at Dubai Police.

Although rescue teams from Dubai Police rushed to the spot after receiving a call at 8pm, and frogmen surveyed the entire area, inclement weather caused by strong winds and high waves proved a hindrance.

When the search continued the day after, the body was already washed ashore and was seen between two rocks near the shore.
 
The police official warned people engaged in recreational fishing to stay away until the weather improves.
