Ministry of Health will maintain online inventory of international medical products sold in the UAE beginning from first quarter, according to a report in 'Al Khaleej' newspaper.
Dr Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary, Medical Practices and Licensing, Ministry of Health, said: "The details of medicines will be downloaded electronically on to the Drug Control Authority's website. The step aims to reduce paper use."
MoH also oversees nine local factories producing 164 medicines. "A total of 8,400 brands of drugs have been registered in the country," he added.
Amiri said, MoH oversees 1,400 pharmacies in various emirates, including 14 in government hospitals and 199 medical repositories to import drugs from abroad.
The MoH has adopted a new policy to promote medical products in supermarkets provided they follow strict procedures inlcuding updating the ministry every three months of their stock.
