The Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched here on Wednesday Dh75 million Khalifa Research Centre for Marine Environment in Umm Al Qaiwain.
Launched at the expense of Sheikh Khalifa, the centre aims to develop research, protect national fishery reserve and preserve the environment.
The centre was set up during the inspection tour of Sheikh Mohammed to the Research Centre for Marine Environment, of the Ministry of Environment and Water in Umm Al Qaiwain.
The Vice President deemed the development of the Khalifa Research Centre for Marine Environment a "national duty to safeguard our fishery resources, which represent basket of food security to our people".
At the arrival to the centre, Sheikh Mohammed attended a presentation delivered by Dr Mariam Hassan Al Shanasi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Water, on the strategy and functions of the centre.
Present were HH Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
