Motorist deported for using forged Mawaqif tickets

A European has been deported after he was found guilty of forging Mawaqif tickets.

He was given a suspended three-year jail term by Abu Dhabi Criminal Court.
 
According to a report in Al Ittihad newspaper, the tickets in his possession had been confiscated.
 
The accused was arrested after the staff of Department of Transport found a forged ticket in his car.
 
He reported the matter to police after confirming the number on the ticket was fake.
 
During investigations, police found 14 tickets in his car of which 12 were forged.
 
The accused admitted that he used the tickets but didn’t know they are forged. He claimed that he had bought the tickets from an unknown Asian.
 
However, the court was not convinced with his defense as he failed to provide evidence of his innocence.
 
The court finally issued its verdict sentencing him to a three-year suspended jail term followed by deportation.
