NEC issues guidelines for elections

The National Election Commission (NEC) has issued "Voter and Candidate Guideline" and "Empowerment Program of the Federal National Council (FNC)" as part of its efforts to raise awareness on matters related to elections and the program of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to encourage political participation.

The guidelines will enable the voters to exercise their electoral right in a way that will ensure them to maintain their voices and show all voters and candidates their rights and their duties so that each of them, particularly those who enter the election arena for the first time, can be aware of all aspects of the electoral process.

The guidelines are divided in three main sections; the first is "Definition of the Federal National Council elections 2011," the second is "Voter Guide" and the third is "Candidate Guide" that includes a number of topics of interest for all those concerning to electoral process by providing answers to all questions on FNC elections 2011 in a simplified way.

The second publication (Empowerment Program of the Federal National Council (FNC) reviews the practical steps that have been taken to strengthen and activating the role of the FNC to be the authority to support and guide the executive foundation, known as the phase of empowerment, which was launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the occasion of UAE's 34th National Day in 2005.

The publication presents a detailed picture of the speech by President Sheikh Khalifa, the decisions that have been made to enable the Council, the stages of empowerment, which included the creation of a ministry concerned with the affairs of the FNC, the first elections in 2006 and the constitutional amendment No. 1 for the year 2009, the FNC after the elections of 2006 and the second elections of 2011.

Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council, Member of the National Elections Commission, Chairman of the Management Committee of the elections, has said that these publications comes in the framework of the keenness of the Committee to provide a comprehensive picture of the empowerment program that established a new phase of the work of the FNC, stressing the importance of documenting this important stage in the history of the UAE.

He pointed out that the commission has begun distribution of these publications on the electoral bodies and to those interested in this field and published them on the website of NEC.
