New ‘Brand Dubai’ car number plates will become available to the public soon. On Tuesday afternoon, a road user spotted pink-and-blue number plate ‘1’ at a location in Dubai.

“These number plates will be an optional extra feature for the car; people can replace their existing number plates with the Dubai-branded one,” explained Abdulla Al Bastaki, Director of the Information Technology Department at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which is introducing these ‘Brand Dubai’ number plates.

The Brand Dubai is illustrated on the number plate in pink and blue, replacing the regular name of the emirate on the number plate. The plates are available in small and large sizes.

Although the price has not yet been determined, the must-have number plates are expected to be affordable, pointed out Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency and Head of Supervision of Implementing the Integrated Roadmap to Transfer to the Smart Government Team.

“We do not want this to be a high-end product, because the idea is that it will promote the Brand Dubai. We would like people to be able to afford this,” he said.

Meanwhile, a competition running during the course of Gitex invites car owners in Dubai to send in a selfie with their number plate through the hashtag mydubainumberplate on the social networking sites of the RTA.

The 10 selfies that receive most likes will be given the Dubai-branded number plate, which they may get before the new number plates reach the market, said Al Bastaki.

Regular applicants can apply for the new number plate through he RTA service centres or through the newly developed Driver and Vehicle app.
