The Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy on Wednesday announced the appointment of its new managing director, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, under the leadership of its Chairman, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister.

On assuming his new duties, Sheikh Sultan said: "My first wish is to thank the Foundation's board of directors and particularly Abdul Rahman Al Owais for so ably carrying out the role of managing director since January last year. He has most effectively overseen the Foundation's affairs during 2010 and I am delighted that he will remain on our board to advise us in future.

"As the new managing director, I plan to focus intently on the Foundation's various projects and programmes; the process began last year, with the help of a world class advisory firm. We aim to enhance our work by adopting the best international tools. We'll also look at partnering with an internationally renowned foundation, to add variety and value".

Sheikh Sultan stressed the importance of building new partnerships and strengthening the Foundation's relations with major donors and stakeholders. This would broaden the public's appreciation of the Foundation's achievements, helping to raise more funds during 2011 to strengthen the Foundation's capital reserve and enhance its financial stability.

Sheikh Sultan is Chairman of Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) and of TDIC's sole equity stakeholder, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (Adta). He serves as Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec) and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach). Sheikh Sultan is also a board member of Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD).

He recently became a member of the Executive Council of the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
