A traffic police unit created by Abu Dhabi two years ago to handle minor accidents and ease road pressure will extend its services to two northern emirates next month, 'Al Khaleej' newspaper reported on Monday.

Saaed, a unique traffic accident planning unit in the region, will be operational in Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain in October, the paper said, quoting Colonel Hussein Al Harthi, Head of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police.

“Saaed will be present at the police departments in those two emirates to receive reports on minor road accidents and ensure quick dispatch of traffic experts to the accident scene,” he said.

He said the agreement to deploy Saaed in the two emirates would contribute to greater efficiency in controlling roads and performing traffic work, adding that new technology used by the unit allows it to finish accident planning in just 10 minutes. “This will avert road congestion and ease pressure on other units.”

Saaed was launched in Abu Dhabi in 2008 to take over planning of traffic accidents that do not include casualties.
