Dubai has no plans to extend a four-month offer to reduce traffic fines by up to 40 per cent as it will end on schedule on Tuesday, the director of the emirate’s traffic police was reported on Monday as saying.
The grace period was enforced on September 11 for just less than three months but was extended for 30 days until January 10 to mark the UAE’s National Day on December 2.
“The period ends tomorrow and we have decided to extend work hours at all traffic sections today and tomorrow until 4.30 pm to give a chance to all offenders to come and pay,” traffic chief Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin told the Sharjah-based Arabic language daily 'Al Khaleej'.
He noted that the discount is applicable only to offences committed by drivers before September 11, when the offer was announced.
