Have you had enough of promotional messages and other intruding texts on your mobile phone…if yes, it is time to act and have them stopped immediately.
Those who are suffering from such annoying texts can now either block them one by one or all of them at the same time.
They can simply do so by texting the letter “b” for “block” followed by the spam SMS number to 7726 and get all messages from a specific number instantly restricted.
Mobile phone users also have the choice to cancel the order by texting the letter “u” for “unblock” to the same number.
Telecommunications authorities said they could even go further by suspending the services of the text senders in case they persist in such offences.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), which oversees the telecom sector in the second largest Arab economy, said it has the resources to control such messages inside the UAE and is working to extend its reach to senders from abroad.
“We have introduced penalties against undesirable texts sent to mobile phone within the UAE…these penalties involve suspension of the service in case senders repeat the offences after being warned,” TRA director general Mohammed Al Ghanem said, quoted by the Abu Dhabi-based Arabic language daily Alroya.
“We are also trying to reach a solution to control messages sent from abroad…for those within the UAE, TRA has provided a facility to all mobile phone users by allowing them to send a text to 7726 to block or unblock one or more text sender to their phones.”
