The Public Auction No. 70, recently held by the Licensing Agency of the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) at the RTA main building for miscellaneous vehicle number plates, has witnessed a considerable public turnout that rekindled the competitive spirit among bidders and pushed up the total proceeds of the auction to as much as Dh11.553 million.

Mohammed Abdul Kareem Nimaat, Director of Vehicle Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, stated that there were 85 number plates offered at this Auction of various categories D, E, F, G, H, I , J.

He said the number plate “I - 60” topped the auction selling for Dh1.540m. As for the three-digit plates, the number “J – 444” was the highest selling for Dh610,000. In the four-digit number plates the number “J - 1111” was sold for Dh755,000 while the fivr-digit number “J -77777” was sold for Dh755,000.

The Director of Vehicle Licensing Department pointed out that Auction 70 was part of the public auctions organised by RTA for customers with the aim of selling vehicle number plates in a highly transparent and publicised environment.

“The Action 70 witnessed considerable public turnout of various age categories and the participation of community segments of different nationalities which is a testament to the success of these regularly held auctions and the public keen interest in the participation. This in turn boosts our confidence in holding more auctions in the future”, he remarked.

Nimaat further said: “RTA conducts distinguished vehicle number plate auctions in accordance with the approved plans whereby a thorough review is carried out for the number plates to be auctioned along with their prospective values. It is worth-mentioning that the revenues from Auction 70 were very close to the forecasted value for the proceeds of the auction despite the relative decline in some plates compared to the volume of demand and supply in the secondary market of vehicle number plates”.

“RTA assigns considerable attention to serving customers by providing them top class services and best practices, particularly with regard to the transition to e-services platform and simplifying transaction procedures. This is reflected in the online auctions held by the RTA for customers interested in acquiring vehicle number plates, who now find it quite easy to buy number plates”, noted Mohammed Abdul Karim Nimat.

He emphasised that RTA was endeavoring to overcome all obstacles encountered in the course of transition to the electronic number plate sale format, announcing that that the next public auction would be in held in February. “In the meantime and before the next public auction, an online auction will be held during which a number of designated number plates will be offered”, concluded the Director of Vehicle Licensing.
