Desert accidents have already claimed one life this year and injured two others, according to Dubai traffic prosecution.

On an average about 15 deaths are reported annually, mostly youth and children, apart from scores of others who get injured. An Emirati lost his life last month in one such tragic accident, reported 'Emarat Al Youm'.

Head of traffic prosecution, judge Salah Bufrousha Al Falasi, said desert without blood - an initiative launched by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Culture and Arts in Dubai - is very important in raising awareness about safe driving in the desert.

The campaign helps eliminate such deaths and reduce injuries by atleast 70 per cent apart from ensuring violators of rules are punished.

Last month, one Emirati lost his life as his motobike turned in the sand. In another incident, a national was driving his car over a sand dune and did not see two people on the other side of the dune and smashed the car into them. Both have been admitted to hospital with injuries.

The Federal Traffic Law and its recent amendments ensure the violators of rules are punished.
