There could be heavy traffic due to detours and traffic diversions today (Saturday) afternoon due to Dubai Tour 2014 cycling championship.

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said only one lane of the road will be closed to assure smooth flow of traffic. However, it urged motorists to make sure to use alternate roads.

The race will start at 12.30pm from Al Saada Street and end at 3.30pm.

The race along Jumeirah Street will start from 12:30 until 17:00 and all entrances and exits to the street will be closed.

RTA said roads that are closed will reopen immediately after all the cyclists pass, with the exception of Jumeirah Street.

Among the major roads that could face heavy traffic during the cycling championship include Sheikh Zayed Road along Trade Center roundabout, Umm Suqeim Street, 2nd December Street, Al Karama Tunnel, Yani Yas Street through Maktoum Bridge, Corniche Street, Tariq bin Ziyad Street, Khalid bin Waleed Street, Ali Ibn Abi Talib Street, Al Wasl Street, Al Safa Street and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.

Cyclists will use other smaller streets such as Al Falah Street through Al Ghubaiba Street, Al Khaleej Street, Al Mina Street and Jumeirah Street.
