Parents get Dh300,000 from hotel for daughter’s death

An Abu Dhabi court of appeals upheld an earlier sentence and ordered a local hotel to pay Dh300,000 to an Arab couple whose little daughter
drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool, press reports said on Tuesday.

The funds include Dh100,00 diya (blood money) and Dh200,000 moral and material damages for the loss of the girl, they said.

The parents had sued the unnamed hotel after their daughter fell into the pool and drowned in the absence of rescuers.

The girl disappeared when her mother went to buy biscuits for her and was found inside the pool by her father, who jumped into the water and rescued her.

She was rushed to hospital but died three days later.
