Another huge fire broke out in Al Quoz industrial area of Dubai last evening, two days after a blaze gutted a warehouse in the same neighbourhood.

Last evening's fire broke out at the Patchi chocolate factory, which has been put out since, with no casualties reported by an official from Dubai Police.

However, employees at neighbouring warehouses gave mixed reports over the possibility of a missing worker.

Earlier Thursday morning, eight Civil Defence vehicles and an ambulance were still on the scene, while Civil Defence officials were investigating the cause of the blaze.

A huge column of smoke rising up from Al Quoz industrial area 3 was spotted last evening, spreading like a mushroom cloud high up in the sky that could be seen as far away as The Dubai Outlet Mall on the outskirts of Al Ain, past the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The fire erupted around 6pm in the Patchi chocolate unit, with emergency vehicles arriving on the scene within 10 minutes, as per eye witness accounts.

An ambulance staffer told Emirates 24l7 at the time that no injured person had been brought out, with workers from neighbouring Nunu Hypermarket stating the same this morning, saying: "Because the fire broke out around 6pm, most workers had already left the premises. We asked around in the labour camps and we were told everyone is safe."

However, another employee at a neighbouring furniture manufacturing warehouse said he heard an altered story this morning. He said: "We heard this morning that one of the workers is missing; we don't know if he was still in the warehouse or he is simply unaccounted for."

Last evening's fire, which occured at evening rush hour, resulted in chaos on the streets as emergency vehicles battled the traffic to arrive on the scene of the fire.

Dubai Police said: “There is a major fire in a sweets unit in Al Quoz Industrial Area. For your own safety we request you not to be near the site.”

This is the second fire in the Al Quoz industrial area in this week.

A fire broke out earlier this week in the warehouse of Sana Fashions in Al Quoz. One person died in the fire and another is still missing.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) officials said power has been disconnected to Patchi warehouse and Dewa personnel are ensuring that electricity and the water main doesn't go in the whole area.
