A policeman allegedly forged a passport photocopy in order to join Dubai Police, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

HAH, 27, from Comoros and born in Ajman, forged a photocopy of a UAE passport that carried his name. he also changed the issuance and expiry dates while applying for a job in Dubai Police.

The accused confessed to the charges and said that in 2002 his UAE nationality and the passport were withdrawn. In March 2005 he applied to Dubai Police and submitted a photocopy of the withdrawn passport. In March the following year, he was asked by the police to submit another photocopy of his passport as the validity expired in April 2005. He forged the dates by cutting it from a photocopy of another person’s passport… attaching it to his passport photocopy and photocopying it again.

In the year 2008, the accused regained his UAE nationality following a decree by the president which covered all those whose nationality was withdrawn. He approached the Residency and Foreign Affairs Department who asked for a certificate from the place of work. The department found out that he was employed by the police in March 2006, while his residency was withdrawn and his UAE passport had expired, according to the records.

The court adjourned the case for verdict till January 18, 2012.
