The Traffic Court of Dubai issued a landmark verdict asking the principal of a primary school, a school bus driver and the driver of a car to pay a total of Dh200,000 in blood money, after they were all found guilty of causing the death of seven-year-old girl.

The court ruled that the three persons were guilty of negligence after the school bus driver allowed the young girl to get down from the bus alone in front of her home.

The court ruling asked each of the guilty to pay Dh50,000.

The court stated in ruling that the principal neglected his duties by not recruiting an assistant to reach students home from the school bus.

According to the court, the bus driver stopped the vehicle in a side street in the Al Qusais area of Dubai and the young girl had to cross the road.

As she did a car hit her, for which the driver was found guilty of “neglect and lack of attention.”

Salah Bofrucha Al Falasi, public prosecutor of the Traffic Department Dubai told Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm: “Pursuant to local Law No. (2) 2008 on school transport in the Emirate of Dubai, schools are required to appoint an assistant for students in the buses.”

Al Falasi added the court sentenced the driver of the car to one month in prison and suspended the licence of the bus driver for three months.
