Rain still likely for UAE

A weather system from the northeast that has brought strong winds and thunderstorms to parts of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain is not likely to affect the UAE in the coming days.

A spokesperson for the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has stated, “there is a very slight chance of some clouds heading towards the UAE, but it’s highly unlikely, with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain being the most affected in the region.”

The storm surge is moving from northern Iraq, bringing high winds and thunderstorms in its wake.

However, the NCMS has not ruled out rainfall entirely for the UAE this weekend, with the wet weather that has affect the country for most of this week to continue into Friday and Saturday.

“The Arabian Sea depression, which rolled in nearly 10 days ago, is still causing some fluctuations in weather that is resulting in rainfall, and even hail, in some areas,” the spokesperson said.

The NCMS had also issued weather warnings on Thursday against fresh southwesterly winds over some coastal areas, with low visibility in parts.

The system could continue into Friday, with the NCMS saying: “On Friday and Saturday, there is a possibility of some cloud cover in the western and northern regions of UAE.

“The build-up of cumulus clouds may bring rainfall to the eastern mountain areas in due course.”

However, the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to be light to moderate over the weekend.

Humidity levels, which have given rise to foggy and sticky weather these past few weeks, are also stabilizing with temperatures reaching mid-twenties at night over land.

The NCMS spokesperson added: “We are gradually moving towards a change of season so we will see the hot, humid weather levelling off with fluctuations up to two degrees Celsius in the coming days.”
