Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation Authority has issued a notice advising international carriers against flying in passengers whose passports are valid for less than six months.

The RAK Civil Aviation Authority in its circular has clearly mentioned that airline companies ignoring the rule will be fined Dh5000.

The notice (a copy of which is with this office) says: Kindly note that passengers disembarking at RAK International Airport should hold a passport with the validity of at least 6 months for a resident visa or 3 months for ‘on arrival’ visa.

All airlines are requested to verify the validity of passenger passport as mentioned above. In case of violation the company will be fined Dh5000. Hence it is advised all airlines implement this bulletin as soon as possible and avoid embarrassment.

Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras al Khaimah Civil Aviation Authority advised all airlines to comply with this basic immigration rules strictly and avoid embarrassment of being fined.

As per the immigration rules, visitors to the UAE on a new resident visa should hold a passport valid for at least six months. The authority said it will fine all the RAK Airport operators and airlines Dh5000 for violating this norm.

Similar rules are prevailing at other airports, but the RAK Airport witnessed some passengers coming with passports about to expire. “A passenger from a Western country came to the airport with a passport that had only one week validity.

This created an issue and the passenger was issued a visa for one week only,” said sources familiar with the airline that carried the passenger here. It is common knowledge that international air travel requires passengers to hold passports valid for six months.

While some passengers using the RAK International Airport have complained of delays due to their passport validity and expiry dates, the airport authority said there is no such issue for outgoing passengers.

“If you are an Indian passport holder and going to an Indian airport, the passport should be valid. Even if it is nearing expiry date, you can renew it there. But for applying for a new visa, the passport should have minimum six months validity,” said an airline source.
