The UAE’s top court has ordered a retrial of a man convicted of helping a woman and her son sneak out of the UAE after illegally entering the country.

A court had earlier sentenced the man to three months in jail and ordered his deportation from the country, prompting him to appeal.

An appeals court reduced the sentence to one month in prison and abolished the deportation order, but he appealed again with the Federal Supreme Council (FSC).

His argument was that the UAE laws criminalise foreigners who enter the country illegally or those who help them sneak into the country not out of it.

"The FSC accepted that logic and ordered a retrial of the man with a new court panel," the Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said.
