The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the Widening of Al Qudra Road project from Jebel Ali - Lehbab Interchange up to Bab Al Shams R/A, extending 12 km and comprising 3 lanes in each direction at a cost of about Dh110 million.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, expressed his delight with the opening of this vital project which is considered a key traffic corridor starting at Jumeirah via Umm Suqeim Road which has recently been upgraded with the opening of two bridges each has three lanes in each direction; the first lies above the Eastern Parallel Road (Al Asayel Road), and the second stretches above the Western Parallel Road (Al Khail First Road). The traffic continues to flow smoothly through the flyover on Al Khail Road and the Arabian Ranches Interchange on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and from there to Al Qudra Road above Al Qudra Bridge on the Emirates Road up to Seih Assalam.

"The initial stage of the project saw the opening of Al Qudra Road; which has been widened from one to three lanes in each direction, stretching from the bridge above Jebel Ali - Lehbab Road up to Bab Al Shams R/A. currently two diversions are in place extending over 2 km to cover the bridge works and camel crossings. On Jan 31st this year, the RTA will open the new bridge which is parallel to the old bridge crossing Jebel Ali - Lehbab Road. Cyclists track will be diverted to the new Bridge, and fencing will be erected to separate cyclists track from the Road, and on 31 March the RTA will open vehicles and camels crossing on Al Qudra Road.

The Widening of Al Qudra Road project aims at stepping up the safety level on Al Qudra Road, especially in the last sector extending from Jebel Ali - Lehbab Bridge up to Bab Al Shams R/A; where some motorists drive at excessive speeds, besides the crossing of camels and horses at some points. In designing and constructing this Road, the RTA attended to the highest safety standards for road users where metal rails have been constructed at the median to fend off disorderly U-turns, besides renewing road marking and intensifying the road lighting. The project design works also catered to maintaining all trees as well as irrigation networks and lighting poles," explained Al Tayer.

"The RTA will continue with the construction of an array of improvement and widening works of main and arterial roads in the Emirate of Dubai as part of an overall projects-widening plan envisaged in RTA's strategy for coping up with the urban, economic and tourist development witnessed by the Dubai Emirate, easing traffic snarls at some locations, providing advanced services to meet the needs of demographic & urban growth, and figuring out practical and comprehensive solutions capable of bring about smooth traffic flow in realization of RTA's Vision of Providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All.
