Abu Dhabi Municipality has urged hair dressing and beauty salons in the emirate to strictly adhere to health standards.

The municipality recently participated in an open day forum for hair dressing and beauty salons for men and women, organised by Ajman Municipality in which about 300 salons and municipal health officials participated.

The forum’s aim was to raise awareness about public health and safety stipulations on these salons, acquainting attendants with contagious diseases communicable via tools and equipment and preventive methods to be taken.

Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said: "The forum reviewed health stipulations that should be observed in salons to avoid spread of diseases through tools, barbers themselves contracting contagious diseases or failure to sanitise tools used in hair cutting, hair dryers, and hair dyeing, among others.
He called upon all hair dressing salons and beauty parlours in Abu Dhabi to adhere to health standards governing such activities as they would have a direct bearing on the community’s health.

He said the municipality was keen on monitoring the salons in the emirate through inspection campaigns to verify hygiene standards in salons.

He added that the municipality was keen on distributing a booklet on black henna to the public. The forum discussed black henna and its adverse impacts on human health and skin.
