School buses banned from entering airport tunnel

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has banned school buses from entering the airport tunnel.

Only RTA buses and light buses (14 seater mini buses) are exempt from the new rule, the RTA clarified in a statement to Emirates 24|7.

"RTA would like to clarify that all categories of buses, except RTA buses and other light buses (14 seater mini buses), are not allowed in the airport tunnel AIRPORT from February 14," said Maitha Bin Adai, CEO, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA.

According to the RTA, the decision was made based on studies, to address "congestion along roads leading to the airport tunnel, air-quality due to high number of vehicles and potential implications of any major accidents due to its proximity to the airport"

They added "that alternate routes such as Itihad Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Algeria Road, Academic City Road etc can be utilized by large buses".
