Sex with daughter drove US sailor to try suicide

A US Navy technician attempted suicide in a Dubai hotel to escape the possibility of conviction back home for having a sexual relationship with his daughter.

The 40-year-old man identified as AA was found unconscious in the Dubai International Airport Hotel bath by a staffer on Christmas Eve, reports The national.

The technician stationed in Oman, had left a suicide note on his laptop explaining why he decided to end his life, prosecutors told a Dubai court where a case for attempted suicide is now being heard.

Still recovering at Rashid Hospital, the man did not appear before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court when the case came up for hearing on Thursday.

Investigation shows that the man had cut both his wrists with a broken bottle, swallowed 60 tablets meant for cardiac issues which he purchased from an airport pharmacy, and downed three bottles of alcohol and three cans of energy drink.

A hotel worker found him in the bath with water running on his head and him bleeing from the wrists.

The suicide note says he was ending his life since he was ordered back to headquarters to face enquiry on the sexual relationship with his daughter, prosecutors said.

During investigations, the man told Dubai prosecutors that he sought a transfer to Oman since his daughter wanted to end their incestuous relationship. He has been working in Oman from October.

Hailing from New York state, the man is married for 20 years and also has a son.

His wife apparently came to know about the relationship two months after he arrived in Oman.

He said on December 23 he was asked to report back to his US base immediately, without showing a reason.

The man was escorted by a higher ranking officer, who also boarded a Qatar Airways flight to Dubai from where they were supposed to take a Delta Airlines flight to the US.

After landing here on December 24, the man made a call to his wife, who turned down his calls, the report says.

It was then he called his wife’s friends who said she already knew about his relationship with their daughter. Following this, he tried to end his life in the hotel room.
