With the opening of a Skybus station at Terminal 2, the new bus service from the Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) is now available from all terminals at Dubai International Airport.

On Monday December 22nd, Terminal 2 was added as a departure and arrival destination for the Skybus service, which runs between the airport and the major hotels in the emirate to provide a convenient mode of travel for visitors to Dubai.

The service was launched in May this year as a pilot project covering four routes to only 26 hotels, and has since been expanded to make up an official transportation line to 110 hotels along 12 routes, said  Mohammad al Ali, Director of Bus Operations at the RTA.

“The stop at Terminal 2 is the newest addition to the network, and all 12 routes run through the terminal. However, the trips are formed on demand at the moment.”

Initially only departing from Terminal 3, Terminal 1 was added earlier this year. From these terminals, buses depart every 30 minutes to serve the hotels along the route and eventually return to the airport, as return trips can also be booked.

For Dh15, the service includes snacks and drinks onboard, free WiFi and a direct link to the accommodation, explained Al Ali. “Tourists will be able to reach their hotels quicker and have plenty of space for big luggage.”

The pilot project has proven to be highly successful, he explained. “We have seen an average of 10,000 passengers that embark on 1,000 trips every month.

“The service is very successful, and we will be expanding it with new routes and more hotels,” Al Ali said.

Two of the new routes that will be opened in the near future are between Terminal 2 and Sharjah, and Terminal 2 and several labour camps, let the director know.

To board the shuttle bus, passengers must be able to pay for the trip fare with a Nol card, as no cash payment will be accepted. The Nol card can be purchased at the terminal and must be topped up with the sufficient balance for the trip. Children under 6 years old are exempted from the fare.

The 12 routes that depart from the three terminals are the following:

Route 1: Muteena (Crown Plaza Deira, Ramada Deira, Claridge Hotel Deira, Marcopolo Deira)
