Supervisor turns thief: Dh100,000 gold haul

Abu Dhabi Police arrested an Arab national on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery from three houses in the Western Region in Abu Dhabi, located near the construction site where he was working as a supervisor.

The incident came to light after police initiated investigations following complaints from three houses in the area about thefts of valuables from their homes, according to a top police official.

Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, said, preliminary investigation at the crime scenes indicated that the culprit took advantage of the homeowners’ absence to break the houses and cart off valuables, using the same modus operandi in his break-ins.

AAM, the 33-year-old suspect, was arrested in the Western Region and police managed to retrieve some of the stolen items, which varied from gold jewellery and electronics worth more than Dh100,000 from secret compartments.

Colonel Al Junaibi said, “During interrogation, the man confessed to planning and carrying out the thefts during his break, taking advantage of the quiet area and the absence of pedestrians.”

Colonel Al Junaibi praised the outstanding efforts and high competency of police officers in solving the cases and arresting the suspect. He urged homeowners to be cautious and to implement preventive measures to avoid thefts.

The Ministry of Interior had recently launched an awareness campaign – ‘Our property…Our responsibility’, aimed at boosting awareness among individuals on the need to maintain private and public property. Awareness-raising publications and posters were also distributed to individuals, stores, and others as a part of the campaign.
