The Dubai Criminal Court awarded three-year jail terms followed by deportation to each of the three accused who conned a businessman.

SHD, 22, Indian, salesman, lured a businessman with a sugar deal out on the street where three others, one of whom is still at large, claiming to be CID staff stole his money and left him locked in his car.

On May 4, SHD visited Manoj Kalarickal, 35, businessman, and claimed that a person called Sameer wanted to conclude a sugar deal with him.

SHD called Sameer and set up an appointment in the parking lot of Al Bustan Centre in Al Qusais area.

Kalarickal and Sameer arrived at the specified time and SHD arrived later. While they were negotiating the deal, a white Mercedes car stopped behind the businessman’s vehicle. Three men got off the car and, claiming to be CID personnel, asked Kalarickal to sit in the back seat of his car after asking Sameer and SHD to leave.

The businessman sat in the back seat where two of them searched him and took his BlackBerry and Sony Ericson mobiles in addition to his wallet that contained Dh32,000, some dollars, credit card and driving licence. Then they locked the car and told him that police will soon come.

Police later arrested SHD and MAM, 21, bedoun, jobless, and FYK, 25, Pakistani, student, and referred them to the prosecution, which referred them to the court.

The court found them guilty sentenced each of them three years in jail followed by deportation.

SHD’s brother and mother were in court and she started crying on hearing the verdict.

She stayed until the end of the court session to ask if her son will be sent from Al Qusais police station to the Central Jail. With tears rolling down her cheeks she asked: “Is he going to stay in Al Qusais police station or be sent to another jail?”

The mother said she wanted to know where she could see him again.
