Toll at all new Salik gates – even if in-between time is very short

Published

If you are driving from Al Nahda to Al Mulla Plaza and return taking a U-turn, you will be charged the Dh4 toll as you pass the Salik gates on both sides of the road, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has clarified.

A car passing the new Salik gates at Al Mamzar on either side of Al Ittihad Street will have to pay the tariff twice even if the time is too short, said Al Bayan newspaper quoting RTA.

Toll for the new Salik gates at Al Mamzar is unrelated to any other Salik gate such as Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Road or Airport Tunnel.

RTA said Dh4 will be deducted as cars cross Al Mamzar gate- same as is applied when crossing Al Garhoud or Maktoum gates, even if the time between them does not is less than half-an-hour.

The RTA clarified that only Al Barsha and Al Safa gates are related, so the tariff is calculated only once when crossing any of them in less than an hour.

A RTA official told Al Bayan that creation of two consecutive and convergent gates on Al Ittihad Street came after detailed engineering studies of entrances and exits on the road.

Toll Evasion

He added that the main factor was to prevent drivers trying to avoid paying fees as it would have led to congestion in residential areas located along the road.

He explained that the development of the new gates will greatly contribute to reducing traffic congestion witnessed at Al Ittihad Street daily and most of the time, especially during peak hours.

The new gates will redistribute traffic and direct it toward alternative roads such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road or Emirates Road.

He added that will help significantly in reducing traffic concentrated on Al Ittihad Street.
