Dubai Police in coordination with the RTA plans to have two lanes dedicated for motorbikes in Bur Dubai and Deira, 'Emarat Al Youm' reported.

The move is part of the 'Desert without Blood' campaign, launched by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Culture and Arts.

Police patrols in these areas will also be intensified in order to curb motorbike accidents.

Similarly, police will henceforth strictly monitor all desert camp sites.

Cyclists urged to follow safety rules

Meanwhile, Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, paid field visits to University City and Al Warqa'a areas where cyclists frequent the most, reported 'Al Khaleej'.

He called on cyclists to be careful and mainatain safety standards while driving and urged parents to co-operate with the department in maintaining safety standards. Some parents mediate and urge authorities to release seized bikes of their children, especially because they are costly. Most bikes are about Dh30,000, he added.

Maj-Gen Zaffin called on the public to make this campaign a success.
