UAE’s RAK Airways, which made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening on return from Cairo following suspected fire warning, would return to the country on Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson said the A320 aircraft carrying 142 passengers – including the crew – would land at the Ras Al Khaimah International Airport at 4.30pm.

The RT 314 flight made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabian city of Tabuk on Sunday after the pilot suspected fire in the A320 aircraft engine, Saudi media said. Quoting airport official, Saudi media said the plane was subjected to examination at the airport but there was no fire or any other damage.

"RAK Airways would like to confirm that onboard emergency was declared on flight RT314 from Cairo to Ras Al Khaimah at 16: 57 UTC and the airline was diverted for emergency landing to Tabuk, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The aircraft had an uneventful landing and all passengers and crew are safe," the airline said in a statement to Emirates 24l7 on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson from the airline said that "as a precautionary measure RAK Airways activated its Emergency Response System. Presently the Control Center is in communication with the crew," the statement said yesterday.

RAK Airways carried more than 300,000 passengers across its network in 2012, an increase of 47 per cent over the previous year figures.
