UAE Jobs: Philippines ahead of Pakistan, but India on top

Certain kinds of jobs seem to be more popular with some nationalities than others, reveals new data.

In its latest job market report, Dubizzle, a classifieds website, shows the most popular and sought after jobs on the website sees a link between listed vacancies and the nationalities that vie for it.

Top five nationalities searching for sales, logistical distribution and government administrative positions last year were in order, from India, Philippines, Pakistan, Egypt and Sri Lanka.

Nationalities keen on jobs in the secretarial, hospitality, customer service and food and beverage sectors were Filipinos, Indians, Pakistanis, Egyptians and Sri Lankans.

Accounting positions were most popular amongst Indians, Pakistanis, Filipinos, Egyptians and Sri Lankans, and the top job seekers looking for positions in banking and education were from India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt and Jordan.

Indians, Filipinos, Pakistanis, Egyptians and Jordanians were also keen on positions in construction, marketing/advertising and human resources.

Each position listed also shows the varying levels of experience needed to land that job.

For example, in accounting, graphic design and beauty and dental, the majority of positions ask for two to five years of experience whereas jobs in the sales, nursing, administration, real estate, transportation and hospitality sectors primarily require one to two years of experience.

On the other end of the scale of experience, the majority of the postings in the engineering sector require two to five years of experience; while potential civil engineer employees require up to five to ten years of experience.

According to this data, there are over 3.4 million visits to the jobs section monthly, the majority of whom are aged 26 to 30.

As per the latest Monster Employment Index, the number of job opportunities posted online in the UAE rose by 45 per cent over the year to January 2016, making the UAE the best performing market in the region, according to the Monster Employment Index (MEI).

UAE industries which are offering the best employment opportunities at the moment are consumer goods/ FMCG, food & packaged food, home appliance, garments/textiles/leather, gems & jewellery with an impressive 54 per cent growth in online job posts year on year.

The second best performing industry is healthcare. Retail/trade and logistics is also seeking to hire candidates, with a growth of 40 per cent in job opportunities posted online year-on-year to January 2016.

The outlook is gloomier for job seekers in production/manufacturing, automotive and ancillary; advertising, market research, public relations, media and entertainment and oil and gas sectors, which exhibited a modest growth of 4 per cent, 2 per cent and a negative drop of 13 per cent, respectively.
