UAE’s Convoys of Giving launched in Abu Dhabi

By Wam

A "UAE’s Convoys of Giving" project was launched yesterday in Abu Dhabi under the Zayed Giving Initiative to promote a culture of philanthropic work among the youth of the world.

The "UAE’s Convoys of Giving," a community programme, will work towards ensuring cohesiveness in society and promoting a culture of co-operation and voluntary work. These will bring together citizens of a district and help strengthen national unity by ensuring effective partnerships between ministries and public and private institutions.

Dr. Adel Al-shamery, CEO of Zayed Giving Initiative, said the "UAE’s Convoys of Giving" will promote a culture of giving and voluntary work among the youth, thus enabling them to serve the community. Youth from different nationalities are participating in these convoys.

He said the convoys will feature health, educational, environmental and sports programmes. Volunteer groups from the UAE Programme for Social Volunteering will participate in these programmes.

Al-shamery underscored the Zayed Giving Initiative’s keenness to promote and encourage constructive volunteer work to serve the community and raise awareness among people from various walks of life.

He added that the volunteers affiliated with the initiative are highly professional, and can fulfil their duties properly, noting that they are keen to reach across to the most vulnerable sections of the community.

Hailing the UAE’s leadership for the immense support it extends to humanitarian and voluntary work, he said it has been providing all forms of backing to those organisations working in this field.

He added that the UAE leadership accords priority to humanitarian and charity issues, in keeping with the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The Convoys would work in the field of health, education, environment and culture, apart from encouraging voluntary work.
