The UAE Cabinet has approved the updated guide for the use of the UAE flag, coinciding with the national campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to celebrate Flag Day.

The UAE will observe the Flag Day on 3rd November, which also coincides with the accession anniversary of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the presidency of the country.

The updated guide includes the history of the flag design, its adoption and the significance of its colours that reflect the authentic values of the UAE society and the Union.

The red colour symbolises the sacrifices of previous generations who had laid the foundations for the Union and the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs to safeguard the UAE, its achievements and gains. The green colour symbolises growth, prosperity, green environment and cultural renaissance, while the white colour displays the UAE’s charitable contributions and the state's approach to support the security and peace in the world.

The black colour reflects the strength of Emirati citizens, rejection of injustice and extremism.

The flag is used at all national events, religious, social, sports and others, internally and externally. It represents citizens and symbolises dignity, pride and achievements, safety, peace and happiness.

On December 2, 1971, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan raised the UAE flag for the first time, marking the beginning of a new era.
