Civil defence and fast intervention forces were able to put out a fire in a number of warehouses for plastic materials on Sunday in Al Musaffah area of Abu Dhabi. There were no injuries.

The operations were overseen by Colonel Sheikh Mohammad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director of Peripheral Regions Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police.

Colonel Abdullah Al Zaabi, Head of Strategy and Performance Development at the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence General Directorate, said that as soon as the fire report came from the operations room, civil defence and fast intervention forces of the Emergency and Public Safety Department in Abu Dhabi Police were mobilised and sent to the location. The teams started fighting the fire and containing it. The fire was put out using water hoses and foam, preventing it from spreading to adjacent warehouses.

Colonel Al Zaabi called upon the owners and tenants of the warehouses to observe rules of safe storage and carrying out periodical maintenance of fire extinguishers.

Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi, Chief of Media and Public Relations Section at the Directorate General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, said that the fire destroyed a big portion of the goods stored in the affected warehouses as they contained plastic materials, stationery and highly flammable material. He said investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the fire.
