When to apply for job in UAE: Click for best and worst days

Don’t grudge waking up in the morning on a Sunday and going to work that you hate the most. Instead, use Sunday to look for a new job to make the much-needed change. According to local recruitment experts in the country, Sunday is perhaps the best day to apply for a job in the UAE.

According to James Wakefield, Regional Director at Cobalt Recruitment in the UAE, the first day of the week is perhaps the best to send in your resume.

“Sunday is usually the best day whilst Thursday is usually the worst and mornings between 8am and 10am are always better than afternoons or evenings,” he told Emirates 24|7.

The simple reason behind this is that managers are more energetic on a Sunday than the last working day of the week. The same logic holds true for timings as well. The employer may look at your CV for a greater length of time but as the day progresses he may just get busy with other chores.

“Each manager can plan his work differently but we usually keep the CVs to be shortlisted as managers get back to work after the weekend. They are tied up with a lot of work and have to meet deadlines before Friday kicks in,” says the HR manager of a multinational bank in Dubai on the condition of anonymity.

Also, if you send in your resume on a Sunday, there are greater chances that it will be viewed by the manager as it will be at the top of a recruiter’s inbox and won’t get lost among the numerous e-mails.

This is very different from asking for a pay hike. If you are tempted to ask for a salary-hike choose the days that are considered worst to apply for a job.

Headhunters advise that the end of the week or perhaps the last working day is the best to approach the boss to look at revising your salary.

“While every company and hiring manager is different, generally speaking, it is best to ask for a pay rise in the UAE on a Wednesday or Thursday,” James Sayer, Director, Robert Half Middle East had earlier told this website.

“Most managers want to go into the weekend with minimal conflict, as any feelings of upset or frustration may fester when away from the office for a couple of days,” he explains.
