Age it seems has a direct bearing on how you drive and the likelihood of one being involved in an accident.

Detail data made available to this website show that Dubai Traffic Police have a detail age-wise break-up of those causing or involved in road mishaps.

Drivers over 50 are among the most dangerous, even though the overall rate of their accidents declined.

Official figures released by the police show that drivers above 50 years of age caused 83 traffic accidents during the first nine months of this year, logging 8.4 per cent of all road accidents in the emirate.

While 16 people died in these accidents, 101 were injured. Six of them were seriously injured, 41 suffered moderate injuries, 54 sustained only minor injuries.

Drivers in the 20s too caused significant number of road accidents with people of ages 24, 25, 27 and 28 causing 48, 47, 53 and 56 accidents, respectively.

Accidents involving drivers of 28 years of age led to the deaths of 9 persons, while 73 were left injured. Those of 27 years caused 53 accidents with five deaths and 68 injuries.

Drivers in the 24-year bracket caused 48 accidents that killed three and injured 66, while 25-year-old drivers were involved in 47 accidents that led to the death of nine persons and left 71 injured.

However, there has been a decline in the total number of accidents for the over-50s during the first nine months of this year. Compared with 114 accidents during the same period last year, only 83 accidents were seen during the period that shows a decline of 27 per cent.
