Winners of camel beauty contest at Dhafra Festival crowned

The camels owned by Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President’s Representative, won the Bayraq lab for the Aayel category (golden-red camel breed, originally from Oman) at the 10th Dhafra Festival Camel Mazayna (camel beauty contest) held in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

Camels belonged to Khamis Al Mazrouie received the banner for the Majahim category (the black camel of Saudi Arabia).

Held in Madinat Zayed in Al Gharbia (the Western Region) from 13th to 29th December, the 10th edition of Al Dhafra Festival was organised by the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi.

The Festival was sponsored and supported by different government institutions and official bodies of the state.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan crowned the winners this evening.

''The UAE leadership is committed to fostering and supporting heritage and cultural events, including the Dhafra Festival, which has become instrumental to educate young generations about their country’s indigenous heritage, traditions and culture, and how to safeguard those,'' Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan said.

The two-week event also serves as an important channel to make future generations conversant with their unique traditional and cultural heritage.

In spite of advancement of modern technology in all walks of life, Al Dhafra Festival, a unique heritage event of its kind, continues to attract more and more lovers of heritage from across generations, the organisers said.

The festival also draws visitors from different nationalities and offers them an opportunity to get acquainted with the main aspects of the UAE’s national identity.

The event has earned a prestigious position, both regionally and globally, on the calendar of heritage festivals.

The growing success of the event has come due to the unlimited support and great trust people have put in this unique event, which contributes to the revival of the Arab heritage.
