An Uzbek woman who possessed a forged UAE ID card that she paid Dh2,000 for, did not use it, when asked for her identity by police, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

However, LS, 41, is being prosecuted for forging - with a fugitive - the ID card that carried a name different from hers.

On March 25, LS was walking in the street late at night. A policeman, who suspected her, stopped her to check her identity and her residency status.

“She answered me saying that she does not carry any identity document. I asked for a female police patrol to bring the accused to the police station,” testified policeman Ridan Ahmad.

“At the station, policewoman searched her and found that she possessed a UAE ID card that proved to be forged,” Ahmad added.

His colleague Corporal Fatima Isa repeated the same testimony saying that the accused told her that she had paid Dh2,000 for the forged card to a man, and that she got it in her home country prior to coming to the UAE.

The court will reconvene on June 15.
