An employee of a rock-crushing factory in Ras al Khaimah has allegedly died in a freak accident after falling down from a man lift while fixing a steel structure for a new building, sources familiar with the accident told Emirates 24|7.
Thankachan, a 32-year-old Indian, died on-the-spot on Sunday, following the accident.
“The young fabricator was getting ready for his wedding in May. His parents and siblings were keenly awaiting his homecoming. Now, they will receive his dead body,” said a friend of the deceased.
While no official comment from the company was forthcoming at the time of writing this article, company sources told this website that the family will receive an insurance claim of Dh100,000 after police report and court proceedings are over.
“He was working with two other employees to fix the roof for a new shed being constructed for the factory. He climbed on a man lift but fell head-down from a height of 15 feet and died on-the-spot due to severe head injury and bleeding. He vomited just before dying,” said another source familiar with the accident.
