Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), has hailed the recent talks between the Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries (Grulac) and the UAE, and said parliamentary joint action with the largest geopolitical group of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) is aimed at promoting peace, dialogue and strong relations and counter terrorism.

She was speaking at a joint press conference with President of Grulac group, Roberto Leon, to announce the outcome of talks held during the group's first visit to the UAE.

The FNC Speaker also hailed the group's meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. She said the meeting reflected co-operation between the UAE and the group as it coincided with the crown prince's meeting with Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto, in Abu Dhabi.

Al Qubaisi said, "We are working for a better future for ourselves and the coming generations through joint parliamentary action to promote peace and underline the importance of dialogue, understanding, friendship and strong ties. We stand together against terrorism, extremism and their tragic human consequences and impact on development in this region and beyond."

"President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan taught us how to work for a better future for our country and the next generations. The UAE takes great interest in developing plans and strategies to achieve development and progress in various spheres. It also seeks to build strong co-operation and relations with other countries to achieve prosperity and international peace and security," she added.

The Grulac’s visit to the UAE has been a complete success at all levels and achieved all its goals, Al Qubaisi said. "The positive outcome would boost co-operation between the UAE and members of the Grulac in various spheres."

The meetings, she noted, were part of the UAE's efforts to bolster its relations with Latin America.

The FNC will send a request to the Chilean parliament to exempt the UAE from a double taxation agreement, Al Qubaisi noted, adding that the move would represent a success for parliamentary diplomacy and a further economic support for the UAE.
