Dubai Customs said on Wednesday that its inspectors at the Cargo Village seized nine kilogrammes of opium hidden in wooden toys in three cargos coming from an Asian country and heading to three Western countries via Dubai .

The drug was discovered in three separate operations.

Omar Ahmed Al Mehairi, Senior Manager of Dubai Customs Air Cargo Operations, said shipments were sent by air by an Asian company.

Al Mehairi said the inspectors scanned the suspected contents and the machine surprisingly showed some parcels inside the wooden toys. During manual search, inspectors found three parcels of 3kg each. Dubai Customs Mobile Lab took a sample from the contraband for examination and delcared that the suspected exotic substance was narcotic opium.

Dubai officials then informed about the discovery to the competent authorities in the destination country.
