General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, affirmed that the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vision for building and investing in minds and qualifying of scientific human resources comes as a priority in building nations, since human resources are the main and first driving force in the economic, social, cultural and educational development in addition to their capability to maintaining national gains and securing them for future generations.

Sheikh Mohammed added that the overall development, being witnessed in the UAE in various fields, is based on the efforts of its innovative and loyal citizens, who have science and knowledge, citing that progress is strongly connected with new innovative ideas, which would contribute to progress in the economic, social and scientific development.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said these remarks when he received at Al Bahar Palace a group of Emirati inventors from all national bodies who presented their inventions and innovations in a number of fields.

He also said that these inventions were developed registered in the country through the support of the Takamul programme.

Sheikh Mohammed re-affirmed that the UAE will save no efforts to secure a proper and stimulating environment, which is capable of establish scientific infrastructure for ideas, innovations and inventions in all fields.

He also pointed out the role of the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), which contributes to spreading of scientific awareness, encourages and supports Emirati youth in order to develop and apply their inventions in the reality. He said that he is looking forward to implementing these inventions and projects in the real life.

Sheikh Mohammed praised the inventors' contributions to supporting knowledge economy and their efforts to invent new technologies, to benefit homeland and society, underscoring the importance of continuing this march, which would lead to enhancing development in the country.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on 12 inventions, out of 66, which were registered by Takamul Programme in 2011 and exchanged talks with inventors and their supporters.

The inventors, aged between 13 to 75-year-old presented a group of outstanding and world-class inventions in all technology sectors, which constitute a base for new and promising industries and are receiving increasing attention from international companies, making them contribute actively in the development of the U.A.E. economy and society.

Sheikh Mohammed also listened to the presentations of the inventors on various specialties.

During the meeting, the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC) showcased its achievements in 2013and the plan for 2014.

The Committee also pointed out that the provided inventions have embodied the UAE innovators and researchers to cope with the scientific challenges nowadays, where they have taken advantage from the leading role of the UAE in order to build a strong and national knowledge- based economy.

The Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee’s (TDC) Takamul innovation support program was awarded with the "Best National Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Policy Award 2013" by the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) at the LESI’s annual Global Technology Impact Forum, held in Geneva, Switzerland 19th-21 January at the headquarters of the United Nations’ World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The forum was attended by the Director General of WIPO, along with representatives of the World Trade Organization (WTO), The Gates Foundation, and many other technology organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
 
A key strategic initiative of TDC, The Takamul national innovation support programme was created to enable the complete innovation cycle, from the domestic generation of ideas to the practical and commercial application of these ideas into products, solutions and services. The program focuses on two main areas: providing awareness, legal and financial support for intellectual property protection, and enabling the technology transfer and commercialization of IP both locally and internationally.
 
Director General of TDC, Ahmed Saeed Al Calily said: "The programme's first step is a driving force behind the momentum of innovation and invention in science and technology and has expanded its support activities within the entire UAE, making it a national innovation programme."
 
Takamul is credited by local inventors, academia, companies and the Government of Abu Dhabi, as one of the key resources to help aspiring inventors across the UAE, providing support for innovation within knowledge intensive industries such as: Health and Medical, ICT, Clean-Tech, Semiconductors, Oil and Gas, Energy, Advanced Materials and Infrastructure.

Since its launch in 2011, the Takamul programme has supported 66 U.A.E. inventions being filed as patents internationally and 40 new applications are under review for early 2014. The commercialisation support to date covers 40 inventions, some of which are receiving licensing interest locally and internationally.
