Winners of of the 4th Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Creative Sports Award were honoured on  Sunday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, in a grand ceremony attended by local and international sports leaders and figures led Fifa President Joseph S. Blatter.

As patron of the Award, Sheikh Hamdan, flanked by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of National Olympic Committee, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, and Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Award Board of Trustees, presented trophies and medals of excellence and innovation to 16 Emirati, Arab and international creative athletes.

Sheikh Hamdan said the award was launched His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to recognise and celebrate top Emirati, Arab and international  sports achievers and out of his vision that sports is a human message and an effective channel of direct communication and interaction among nations.

The winners were : British Olympic Association (international level), Tawfiq Makhloufi Younis Ahmed Al Saleh (Arab athlete), Jibril Mahmoud Mohammed Rajoub (Arab administrator), Qatar Olympic Committee (Arab foundation), Abdullah Sultan Hamad Masoud Al Ariany (National athlete), Hamed Mohammed Ahmed Al Rousy (National referee), Al Nasr Sports Cultural Club (local team), UAE Wrestling, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and Kick Boxing Federation (local foundation), Jack Rogge (international sports figure), Othman Al Saad (Arab sports figure), Sheikha Hayat bint Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa (Arab sports figure who contributed to the enrichment of women’s sports), Habiba Al Maghrbi (emerging athlete who  achieved tremendous success in the sports field), Alaa Eldeen Al Kaseem ( emerging athlete who achieved tremendous success in sports), Al Mur Mohammed Bin Heraiz (emerging local athlete who achieved tremendous success in sports), Najat Al Kara (athlete who achieved success in sports despite major humanitarian challenges), and Ukrainian National Olympic Committee (international sports foundation which achieved success based on values).

The award is considered to be the first of its kind in the field of sports locally, regionally and internationally. It reflects the vision of Sheikh Mohammed to uplift sports and athletes through a solid base of principles that he emphasises on and supports. The awards emphasise on the vital role of Dubai Sports Council in supporting sports activities locally, regionally and internationally through the appreciation of creative athletes and their efforts and to make Dubai the global centere for sports creativity, leadership and excellence.

The award is competed for at three levels: UAE, Arab region, international community and includes three categories: individual creative sports, team creative sports and corporate creativity.
