Mohammed attends Abu Dhabi World Future Energy Summit

In the presence of UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated today “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2013”, “World Future Energy Summit” (WFES), International Water Summit (IWS), Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Conference (Adirec), all hosted by Abu Dhabi's Masdar.

The events are held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between 15 and 17 January.

More than 30,000 people from 150 countries including world leaders, government ministers, official delegations C-level business executives, academics, scientists, engineers, developers, global companies and entrepreneurs converged to discuss, debate and display the latest thinking in renewable and cleantech energy.

In his opening Speech, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed underlined that UAE’s efforts in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development stems from the wise heritage of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

He said that the UAE has provided the world with energy since half a century ago and is committed to its responsibilities as an effective member of the international community, adding:” We are working to ensure energy, water and food security to achieve sustainable development and provide decent life for present and future generations.”

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince welcomed participants and wished them success in addressing the interconnected challenges affecting the global adoption of renewable energy, water security and sustainable development.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed affirmed that Abu Dhabi provides a global platform for cooperation and strategic partnerships with the aim of finding practical solutions to these challenges through the launch of initiatives, such as World Future Energy Summit, International Water Summit and the UAE’s hosting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), noting that Masdar’s local and international projects set a successful example of this cooperation. He emphasised that the UAE always calls on uniting efforts and establishing constructive cooperation with the international community, at all levels, to reach desired solutions.

The opening ceremony also saw the attendance of the Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chamberlain of the Diwan of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Public Works Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office Lt. General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, a number of other sheikhs, dignitaries, ministers, senior officials and the diplomatic corps to the UAE.

Mohammed receives French President 

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has praised the current visit by French President, Francois Hollande, to the UAE  as ''important and historic'' and would further strengthen bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation.

Sheikh Mohammed made his remarks during talks today at Zabeel Palace with the visiting French President, during which they exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments in light of political transformations in some countries in the region. 

The talks also tackled  the world economic and financial situation and how to employ good bonds existed between the UAE and France to build constructive strategic partnerships that realise aspirations of leaderships and peoples of the two friendly countries.

For his part, the French president expressed his country's sincere desire to set up a joint fund for investment projects in energy and tourism.

 ''Our relations are outstanding and excellent but we are looking forward for a future that holds a lot of ambitions that could be materialised to serve mutual interests of our two countries and peoples,'' President Hollande said.

''We have a lot to do more than we have done so far in terms of developing our relations at all spheres,'' he added.

President Hollande invited Sheikh Mohammed to visit France.

Sheikh Mohammed accepted the kind invitation the date of which will be set later.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and head of the honorary mission accompanying the French President, Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State, were present.
