Mohammed attends Sports Awards ceremony

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of THE UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday attended the ceremony honoring the winners of the "Mohammed Bin Rashid Creative Sports Awards " at its third session.

The event which was held at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs , Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and acting Minister of Health in addition to a number of senior officials.

The celebration started with the national anthem, which was followed by speeches by officials shedding light on the role played by the Award on the national and regional levels in motivating Arab youth to creativity and excellence in various fields of sports.

A short documentary film reflecting the development of the emirate and the vision of Sheikh Mohammed was then shown. The film also included scenes on the Award and its activities since its inception.

Following this, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum gave out the awards to the winners. Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer was beside him.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the award for the local Sports Personality of the Year in his capacity as the owner of current English Premier League leaders Manchester City FC and Chairman of Al Jazira Club in Abu Dhabi.

Bahrain's Sheikh Eisa bin Rashid Al Khalifa was given the Award of Prominent Sports Personality in the Arab World, for supporting sports in Baharain and other parts of the Arab world. Sheikh Eisa has played various roles including that of the Deputy President of Supreme Council of Youth and Sports in Bahrain.

Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Olympic Committee was also honoured in recognition of his efforts in the development and support of sports and youth in his country.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Award, honoured 22 sportspersons.

Those who featured prominently in the list of 22 winners was Class One Powerboat World Champion Nader Bin Hindi of the Fazza Team along with a host of top sportspersons, officials and federations from across the Arab region.

Mohammed graces mass wedding

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended a mass wedding organised by the 'Marriage Fund' on Wednesday evening at the Sand Castle.

Sheikh Mohammed cut the ribbon of the Sand Castle on Dubai-Al Ain road, and then attended the wedding ceremony. On the occasion a dinner banquet was also held to celebrate the 6th anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed accession to the throne as the Ruler of Dubai.

The ceremony which was also attended by Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and other senior officials, saw 50 couples tied the knot in the holy bond of matrimony.
