Mohammed receives IMF chief

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received this morning at Zabeel Palace, Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

The meeting touched on global financial and economic issues and the role of the IMF in supporting and encouraging economic development programmes in developing countries that suffer weak infrastructure, and development projects that provide job opportunities for young people, reduce unemployment, and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development.

In this context, the IMF Managing Director commended the UAE's national economy, despite regional and international economic variables, attributing this to the country's wise policy adopted by the UAE leadership in the implementation of economically viable development projects.

Ms. Lagarde also hailed the active participation of Emirati women in political life. She also highlighted the constructive role played by the IMF and its policies aimed to extend a helping hand and support to poor countries at regional and international levels.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Future, Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Shamma bint Sohail Faris AlMazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Mubarak Rashid Khamis Al Mansouri, Governor of the Central Bank, and Younis Haji Khouri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, along with the delegation accompanying the IMF official.
