A 14-year-old girl lost her battle for life in her village in India on Wednesday.
She was allegedly gang-raped and then set on fire by a man and his two accomplices, reports Indian daily The Times of India.
Though the girls’ family has named three men, the police claim she had a relationship with one of them and had committed suicide.
According to the family, on Tuesday, the girl had gone to the fields with her sister when she was abducted by a local goon, Ram Bahadur, and two others.
The men took her to an isolated spot, raped her and set her on fire. The girl’s sister rushed home and narrated the incident. By the time help arrived, she had sustained 80 percent burns.
The girl was rushed to a local area hospital but died early Wednesday.
The police claimed the girl had gone to meet Bahadur and after being spotted by the brother, committed suicide out of depression.
They have booked the men for rape and abetment to suicide.
